How to be a Flight Attendant?|Advantages and Disadvantages of being a Flight Attendant [PART 1]

In here, I will share the advantages and disadvantages of being a flight attendant based on my personal experiences.

Disadvantages of a flight attendant:

  1. The adjustment. If you are somebody who’s not comfortable to changes or meeting new people or on a new environment or you’re a stiffed kind of person, then you will be have a hard time adjusting to a new place, new people, and new environment.

 

  1. The sleeping pattern. The work is not office hours, 9am-5pm M-F schedule. Sometimes you will work at day or at night. And because of this, your sleeping pattern might be disrupted.

  1. For married and have kids, or can’t be away from home because time with your family will be limited. As an international flight attendant, you will away for 3 consecutive days perhaps.

 

  1. If you are the kind of person who can’t handle and cope with homesickness then it’s gonna be a disadvantage for you. It’s natural and just let it flow, past.

 

  1. Holidays and special occasions. Like nurses and doctors, flight attendants don’t own time. These kind of job is rotational 24/7, Christmas or birthdays will be spend at work. But there are options to file your annual leaves a year ahead.

 

  1. The tendency when you don’t like to learn anymore because of experience and seniority, lack of motivation to grow further.

 

  1. There would a lot of temptations to shop because you go to different countries. Like LV is much cheaper in Paris and Prada in Milan. You tend to shop these things because of its low prices, clothes, shoes, and even foods.

 

  1. Some may hate working in a customer service kind of job. Being a flight attendant, you’re the security and safety officer, face of the company, and the customer service representative who’ll handle various complaints - food, temperature, or delay.

 

Overall, being a flight attendant is beyond beauty and looks because you do  roles of being the customer service representative, safety and security person of the airline company. You can turn around these disadvantages to something you can work on to. Everything just take preparation, practice, and good timing.
