How to Succeed for the Flight Attendant’s Group Dynamics Interview?

After passing the initial assessment to be a flight attendant, there will also be the group dynamics or group interview wherein the recruiters will see how you are as a team member.

Why do airlines conduct group dynamics interview? The reason is they want to know your team work skills - How you will work with other people? With people you just met on that day? Because the reality of being a flight attendant is to work with different kind of people everyday. Also, with a thousand of applicants the group interview will lessen their time and it’s cost effective. And they want to compare and see you with the other applicants, of whom they’ll pick and not.

What are the different types of group dynamics interview:

1. A group of 12 with a 2 minute task wherein you should follow instructions and assign one member as the secretary and another one as the timer. Sample rules are: Rule #1: Everybody should speak in English and not other languages are allowed.Rule #2: No one is allowed to look on recruiters and focus on your group activity.

Sample group activity: A task to make a 3-day itinerary for a guest in 2minutes.

2. A group presentation for a sing or dance number which usually happen in Air Asia.
3. A group of 2 and the tasks is to introduce your partner.
4. A group of 6 to 12 with a task to build a tower out of sticks, or other props to use.

How to succeed in the group dynamics activity:

1. Be ready of your self-introduction. Recruiters usually ask for a short introduction of each applicant.
2. You have to mind your decorum.Decorum means your posture, body language, and your physical language. You have to be alert by sitting up straight, and look the speaker in the eyes and listen. Try to be 100% present. Do not look anywhere while someone is speaking, avoid yawning, and don’t look as if your tired or bored.
3. Do not compete with your group memberor try to outshine everyone because the objective of this group is team work and instead try to be inclusive by acknowledging and inviting your groupmates. E.g  “Thank you Anna for that wonderful suggestion. This my suggestion, I want to bring our guest into the beach because Philippines is known for its wonderful beaches and I’m sure that our guest will appreciate and when they come back they will have a golden tan line and you could only have that on the beach. That is my suggestion. How about you Rebecca? Where will you take our guest”

What are the things to avoid in the group dynamics activity?

1. Taking all the spotlight to yourself.
2. Do not interrupt the speaker.
3. Avoid using harsh words to actions but rather remain polite and mind your language.
4. Try to avoid being intimated and be assertive.
5. Avoid discussing social life.
6. Loss of concentration.
7. Avoid using your cellphones by turning it off.
8. Avoid criticizing your groupmates.

Overall, the group dynamics activity is to assess your people skills for teamwork. It’s not a competition but you need to show of which you are cooperative through acknowledgement and connection of the members.
