Love or Career? The flight attendant career and your lovelife
How to be a Flight Attendant? Love or Flight? Career or Lovelife
Love or career? Which one should you choose? One day, I told my mom that I accepted what fate tells me to be a matandang dalaga.
When I was young, I so in love with my boyfriend. Though in my heart, I know that being a flight attendant is a good career, that I wanna try it but I didn’t pursue it and just stop myself then. I chose love over career.
One day that same boyfriend and I had an argument and I can never forget what he said. "Where is your self-respect? Why wouldn’t you do that for yourself? Don’t do things for me, do things for you. If you have self-respect, you should think about yourself - of how you’ll be a better person, of how you’ll have a better career. Don’t let relationship stand in the way for your career." His words were a wake-up call for me. After a few months that relationship had a few more problems and things did not work out for us.

Fast forward to me second boyfriend. Location wise it was a good factor for my relationship and my career as a flight attendant. We were both in Cebu that time. We survived without being together 24/7 because of my schedules and we were okay. We lasted that long not until I got an international FA offer and I was hesitant to have a long distance relationship. I made up decision to get it because I’m 27, no kids yet, and I believe it was the best time to fly internationally. I was happy back then since my boyfriend understand and supports me. Time passed and we were not on the same page anymore. We grew apart. He was so good to me. I had my ways, he got his. I want to be fair to him. And in the end I decided to call it off.
Now don't be discouraged by my failed relationships because for sure every story is different. Some people end up together in our industry. While there are couples still end up with each other by going to where one is located. I knew some who would leave the Philippines and go at the Middle East to settle with their partner. Those elements will keep the love alive. Keep the relationship strong. If you are both trying to go in the same place.
I knew some of my friends married and maintains a good relationship with their partners, no matter the distance is. Long distance relationships is alright as long as trust, desire, and confidence you have for each other is there. Sadly for me, It didn’t happen. I experienced depression at 29 because of the break-up. I had a fear of being alone and dying alone. Then, it was the time where I told myself that I would be a matandang dalaga. I told my mom to save a room for me. My ob-gyne said I will have difficulty of having kids because of my Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). That time I was at peace and happy to be alone. I accepted my fate.
After a year, The odd thing is I met John unexpectedly. We dated. We were on the same page - to have kids, to start up businesses, to live far from the city, prepare for the end of days. "Things work themselves out, if you work on yourself first. "(click to tweet) Everything seems to be happy. On this ldr, it was fine and we survived then the rest is history.
In the end, you will realize God has been working on the things that you have been praying for him. (click to tweet) I pray for a life that I would really love. I prayed to be a mom and have a business. I’m happy working as a flight attendant however my dream to start a family and a business is bigger now so it was time for me to let go.
Love or career? Which one should you choose? You don’t have to choose one. It will be all given to you in the perfect timing. You can have it all, just one at a time. No need to worry or to stress yourself out .
Just be happy in what season of life you are right now. Respect and enjoy your season. I miss being a flight attendant but right now I am more happy doing my business, vlogs, writings, and others.
